Take It From Me...

Hang on to the world as it spins around,

Just don't let the spin get you down.

Things are moving fast,

Hold on tight and you will last.

Keep your self respect, you're very bright,

Get yourself in gear,

Keep your stride.

Never mind your fears,

Brighter days will soon be here.

Take it from me, someday, we'll all be free.

This is not only one of my favorite songs of all time, but it is by one of my favorite artists of all time. Yep, I know. I'm old school! This song is a mixture of the somberness of all that's going on politically, while still mixed with a little bit of hope. But really, when you think about our political landscape, isn't this sort of how we're all feeling right now? The economy is tough. Many are out of jobs. There remains a serious divide between Republicans and Democrats. But at the end of the day, Americans remain vigilant and hopeful of the economy turning around and brighter days coming. We can also say that the day is coming where we will all be free of out own political biases...it's so easy to point the finger. For the conservative who only relates to Fox News, and for the Democrat who will only get his news from MSNBC...are we ever going to free ourselves from the natural tendency to only relate to that which confirms our beliefs? Even if our beliefs are wrong, and not forward thinking? Donny Hathaway says: Yes. And I agree with him...

Micky D's and the GOP

McDonalds may have some explaining to do. The New York Times is reporting that it recently, through distribution of their worker's paychecks, a store in Canton, Ohio encouraged their workers to vote for the Republican candidate or else they would face financial repercussions. Mmmkay...
Here's an excerpt from the NY Times article: 'The pamphlet says: "If the right people are elected, we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above the current levels. If others are elected, we will not." The pamphlet then goes on to name three Republican candidates and further says: "The following candidates are the ones that we believe will move our business forward."
As if I needed another reason to stop eating McDonald's...
I also want to note that the McDonald's corporation commented saying that it was a total lapse in judgement on the part of the store's owner. The store owner via an email statement went on to apologize. This does in fact violate the 1953 Ohio state statue which prohibits political material from being attached to wage envelopes. Ooops!

Move Over Sara Palin!

If you are a woman, and you are considering running for Presidential office, you may want to check out The Frisky's top choices for the women they would like to see in the oval office. Here they are in no particular order:

1. Oprah

2. Rachel Maddow

3. Michelle Obama

4. Ellen DeGeneres

5. Hillary Clinton

6. Tina Fey

7. Christiane Amanpour

8. Samantha Bee

9. Chelsea Clinton

10. Madonna

11. Sarah Silverman

I think that a few of these are actually foreseeable...we'll shall see what the future holds...

Not a Politician? Fabulous! You Too Can Be The Most Influencial Man in America!

Jon Stewart is apparently THE MAN. In a recent poll by the men's magazine, Ask Men, Stewart has been voted as the most influential man in America! Even more so than the Leader of the Free World?!? Now, that's powerful. Ask Men went on to say,We argue that the comedian does a better job shaping politics simply by working outside of the political sphere.” WOW. Valid or not?

Seriously Sharon????

Ok, so I couldn't help myself. Republican Senatorial candidate Sharon Angle has decided that she will not speak to the press until after she is elected Senator. She made the statement on conservative Heidi Harris' show. Um, Sharon, if it didn't work for Sara Palin, then it probably won't work for you sista girl! Just saying...
She goes on to say that the political media doesn't "promote" her. Um...that's not their job! Plus, the last time I checked, the media's job is to report the news to it's audience. They are not there to serve as your own PR firm, though through their reporting, they have been know to make stars (Obama and Palin come directly to mind).
Wow...these next 6 days are going to be amazing!

Super Bill to the Rescue!!!!

Former President Bill Clinton spent much of Wednesday stomping for the Democratic Party. He told students at Stony Brook University that they were key to the party's victory this coming Tuesday. In an interview shown on CNN's The Situation Room, President Clinton says that every student should be voting for the Democratic ticket for the strides that the Obama administration have made with student loan reform. He goes on to say that if all of the young people who voted in 2008 came out to vote on Tuesday, then all would be well on the left. We shall see...

But more importantly, I just have to note the star power that ol' Bill still has! It seems that the former President is getting it done more so than that of President Obama, which I am sure, worried the Dems. But hey, if it works, then go for it, right?

Obama, Social Media, and Early Voting

President Obama is loving him some Facebook! I have noticed that the President has been really, really hitting supporters over the head a lot lately with two things:

1. Vote EARLY
2. Encourage others to "commit to vote".

Why? Well it's simple. Early voting helped him out a ton in his 2008 Presidential election. Further, the young vote proved instrumental in helping him to win the Presidency in the first place. And what do all young people have nowadays? A Facebook account! I, personally, encouraged 198 of my Facebook friends to get out and vote via posting on their wall. I did it simply by going to his website: www.barackobama.com, and committing to vote, because well...another one of my Facebook friends encouraged me to do so!

Will this work? Certainly, it the numbers are showing that those get out and early vote are really helping the Democrats' numbers...what do you think? More importantly, how powerful IS social media?

Obama v. Regan

The Pew Research Center has publish a new poll which indicates that President Obama has a higher electability that that of former President Regan. PRC also reports that though Regan's presidency was flooded with economic problems, much like that of President Obama, that Regan went on to win his reelection by an 18 point margin. It is also said that the 2012 Presidential election will begin November 3rd, the day after the midterm elections. What do you think? Is this an indicator that it may not be as bad as it seems for President Obama?

Ahh, the Power of Facebook

I have been seeing a lot of these on Facebook. People are substituting their personal profile pictures for political expression. Now we all know what an impact President Obama made through the use of social media. Was the election of 2008 an exception, or is it now becoming the rule? Will it work for Nathan Deal and Roy Barnes?

Does it Even Matter?

With all of the newest technology and Americans unquenchable desire to know everything, the media has began to report on the finances of different candidates running for the upcoming elections this fall. We are now able to be much more transparent than before...is this a good thing? Do we want to know? Case Study: So apparently gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel paid nearly a whopping $100,000 to fly Sara Palin out to give a rousing speech on why we should support her fellow "mama grizzly". Mmkay...so the problem that I have with this is the fact that Tea Party supporters are supposed to be just like us, right? They are supposed to be an extension of the common day folk, right? I certainly cannot, nor do I know of anyone who has that kind of loot. How then is it ok to pay that much money to a woman (Sara Palin), who doesn't even KNOW Karen Handel??? Am I losing it?? I also need to mention that I am sure that this is done on both sides, both Republican and Democrat, but still...REALLY? Ok, so back to the main issue: Do we care about this? Is is valid for the media to report on this? Do we care? Do we even want to know? Does financial transparency as reported by the media have the ability to sway votes?

"You're Not Black!"

Ann Coulter never ceases to amaze me. While headlining Homocon, a summit which is held by the gay concervative group GoProud, Coulter attempted to shut down the argument that gay marriage should be held to the same protections under the 14th Amendment. Coulter told the crowd that mariage "Marriage "is not a civil right -- you're not black".

You can check out the rest of the story here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/27/ann-coulter-to-gay-conser_n_740066.html

Perhaps the bigger question is why the gay conservative group GoProud invited her there anyway??? Ann has never made any attempts to hide the way that she feels about gay Americans. How can you support a woman is against everything that you are? I don't get it. Thoughts?

Just a Coincidence Huh?

Sara Palin and Glenn Beck will be holding a rally together in Alaska on September 11 to, well...I don't know what it's about really. But the most fascinating thing about this is that Beck claims that like his recent rally, the date of he and Palin's event is just a coincidence....mkay Glenn...

Oval Office Gets a Makeover

Apparently, while President Obama and his family was on vacation this summer, the Oval office got an upgrade. Designers gave one of the most famous rooms in the world a face lift adding new wallpaper, rugs, and coffee table among a few listed.
Respectfully, I ask: "So?" Sorry media, but there are way more important things to report on...shaking my head...

Here We Go Again!

So yet ANOTHER Republican who has in some way been tied to the opposition of gay rights, specifically gay marriage has what? COME OUT OF THE CLOSET.
Ken Mehlmen says, "It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life...The process has been something that's made me a happier and better person. It's something I wish I had done years ago."
You mean, like in 2005-2007 when you headed the RNC? At which time the same RNC began to heavily push for and speak out against gay marriage???!? You have got to be kidding me!
When will the hypocrisy end???? Whatcha think guys? Applaud him for his honesty or no?

Oh Elisabeth...

Elisabeth Hasselback has done it again. The ultra conservative co-host of ABC's "The View" has come out and said that she supports gay marriage. Now as you all know, Elisabeth has makes no apologies of her strong right-winged views, so as you can imagine, this is a HUGE shock.
Although some of the things that Hasselbeck has said over the years makes me cringe, I have to say that it took bravery to speak out...check out the full article on the Huffington Post:

Sounds more like a center-right stance to me...
What do you guys think? Is it fair to assume that most Americans are neither fully Democrat or Republican, but rather affiliate with specific parties by issue?
