With all of the newest technology and Americans unquenchable desire to know everything, the media has began to report on the finances of different candidates running for the upcoming elections this fall. We are now able to be much more transparent than before...is this a good thing? Do we want to know? Case Study: So apparently gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel paid nearly a whopping $100,000 to fly Sara Palin out to give a rousing speech on why we should support her fellow "mama grizzly". Mmkay...so the problem that I have with this is the fact that Tea Party supporters are supposed to be just like us, right? They are supposed to be an extension of the common day folk, right? I certainly cannot, nor do I know of anyone who has that kind of loot. How then is it ok to pay that much money to a woman (Sara Palin), who doesn't even KNOW Karen Handel??? Am I losing it?? I also need to mention that I am sure that this is done on both sides, both Republican and Democrat, but still...REALLY? Ok, so back to the main issue: Do we care about this? Is is valid for the media to report on this? Do we care? Do we even want to know? Does financial transparency as reported by the media have the ability to sway votes?
