McDonalds may have some explaining to do. The New York Times is reporting that it recently, through distribution of their worker's paychecks, a store in Canton, Ohio encouraged their workers to vote for the Republican candidate or else they would face financial repercussions. Mmmkay...
Here's an excerpt from the NY Times article: 'The pamphlet says: "If the right people are elected, we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above the current levels. If others are elected, we will not." The pamphlet then goes on to name three Republican candidates and further says: "The following candidates are the ones that we believe will move our business forward."
As if I needed another reason to stop eating McDonald's...
I also want to note that the McDonald's corporation commented saying that it was a total lapse in judgement on the part of the store's owner. The store owner via an email statement went on to apologize. This does in fact violate the 1953 Ohio state statue which prohibits political material from being attached to wage envelopes. Ooops!
In the 1980's many liberal Democrats were scratching their heads trying to figure out why so many people in their teens and twenties were suddenly in love with Reagan and conservatism. This was somewhat of a paradox considering the anti-Vietnam war, anti-establishment movement of the 60's and 70's was primarily liberal and youth driven. So here we are in 2010, and there is still some Democratic head scratching going on. Now Democrats are trying to figure out why so many working class people want to be Republicans and don't see the connection between the Republican party and traditional corporate interests; to the exclusion of any concern about the average American worker. Reading this story about the McDonald's owner made me wonder the same thing.
ReplyDeleteHAHA Mickey D's does have some explaining to do. This is a store in Ohio, I mean really? Politics is so dirty and so cheap, they will do anything to try to win. Even if that means cutting deals with business owners so that they can cheat working people out of their money. Then we wonder why we are headed in the direction we are today....look at the people trying to lead us!
